A Woman Misplaced (Sept. Contest)
by DARTAGNAN
She stirs the MRE
(Meal ready to eat)
Issued by the military
Just add water and stir
Someone
Was instructing her there
As she stir and stared
A thousand miles away
An exhausted dog laid near by
But she wasn't there
She was here at the pier
Her facial expression said it all
She knew not
Nor did she know what
Lost everything
Nothing to claim
No place to bed
Not just yet
The red tape, Red Cross
Has not assigned her, yet a bed.
She still stirs and stares
Has not eaten in a few days
She don't know that
The shock is too deep
She's cold
But no one knows it
She's too busy, stiring and staring.
She slowly raises the spoon
To her lips
To taste food, not blest yet
And no one there to say grace
She stares over the waters
As a dead human body
Just floats on by
she was never the wise
She was just misplaced.
